Yesterday, we wound up leaving the kiddos home with Grandma while David & I got to go out on our SECOND date since the arrival of children. :) Samuel was feeling a bit out of sorts and really wanted to be home. Shiphrah was most upset at not going back over to the Apples, but an upset Shiphrah is far easier to manage than an upset Samuel. Whodathunkit? Solomon was napping when we left, so it made things quite easy to leave them home.
Anyhow, I really have enjoyed the last 2 James Bond movies. (Casino Royal & Quantum of Solace) The previous Bond character was too much of a womanizer. This character, while certainly flawed, is at least more respectful in that area. I was surprised to see that his lost love from the last film made her way into this one though a photo and discussion of her woven throughout the film, as Bond came to realize that she really did love him as much as he loved her. It was good to see him wrestle with that, as opposed to treating women as purely throw-away-objects like the older Bond movies. David says this character is more like the book. Of course, it was in other ways very much what we've come to expect of a 007 movie--action packed, suspenseful, mysterious, and a just resolution to finish it off. Very fun movie, and although it was PG, I still wouldn't take the kids.
We enjoyed doing a little Christmas shopping together while we were out, too. We made our very first purchases as Strasburg. That was thrilling! They were having such a good sale, we got over 66% off on our purchases, and wound up paying maybe twice what I'd pay at a consignment store for comparable used dresses. Lately, I haven't been able to find anything nice at the consignment stores, either. I should break out the sewing machine. I've been saying this for a couple years now! Anyhow, we splurged on 2 dresses, a sweater, socks, and a hair bow that will be part of the Christmas presents from us and Grandma. (Shhhh.... don't tell her!) This morning, I got up early, gathered up the wrapping supplies, hid myself, and wrapped all the presents we have purchased thus far. When Shiphrah woke up, she asked if one of those boxes would be a dress for her! Sounds like she'll be pleased, and it's nice to know that she takes delight in things like this. David has decided that for her birthdays from now on, he is going to take her out to lunch and then to Strasburg to buy a pretty dress and that having a little girl is loads of fun! I think he adores those dresses more than I do, which is quite amazing in itself! But, I shouldn't be surprised in having such a wonderful husband who delights in lavishing good things on those he loves. He got more excited than me when we'd go shopping for dishes, too, before the local Pfaltzgraff store closed. It is great fun to see him reflect the character of God, who delights in lavishing good gifts upon us. :)
While I love talking about shopping almost as much as I love shopping, I won't bore you with all the other details. I wouldn't want to ruin any surprises for you! Tomorrow is the first day of Advent, so we'll more than likely spend much of the rest of our day today in prepartion. Advent wreath on the table, making room for the Christmas tree, which we'll set up and decorate tomorrow... cleaning the house so we can enjoy it! Oof. I have a lot of cleaning to do, so I better get busy!
Love to you all, and I hope you're as eagerly anticipating the coming Holy Days as much as we are! I think I might have some hot cider before I start that cleaning....
