Very Best Berry Milkshake

If you've read a particular Winnie The Pooh story written by Tammi J. Santa Croce, you will know that I'm not being arrogant here, just spinning off the name of that story... The Very Best Berry Pie. I'm not a talented pie maker, but I can push a few blender buttons, so we made milkshakes instead, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

The kiddos and I decided to take a short walk up the hill to Grandma's. On the way there, we noticed that the blackberry brambles had plenty of ripe berries. We picked a few to eat, and I told them we could get more on the way back. I was really interested in scoping out the woods to see how much of the junk pile had been removed. (A lot! There is still another truckload, maybe, but I'm very pleased with what is done!) Cinder Ella joined us on our little adventure. She has very clearly adopted the children as her herd, while Snow White is in charge of the goat herd! (She came with us to pick veggies in the garden yesterday, too!)

Once we got to Grandma's we washed our hands and legs below the knees just in case they were prey to chiggers or poison ivy. We cooled off a bit in front of her air conditioner, told her of our findings in the woods, and apparently soaked in some C-Span! When we left, Samuel said, "Wasn't that nice of Grandma to let us watch a little TV while we were there?" Oh, my poor, television deprived children!

Grandma gave us a bag to gather berries on our return trek. The kids enjoyed picking berries and tasting the difference between the red (not ripe) and black ones. When we got home, we washed them, put them in the blender, added sugar, milk, and vanilla ice cream. They enjoyed their purple vanilla milkshakes! =-D

Is this what my boys will look like when they're all grown up and have mustaches?

Pay no mind to that messy kitchen in the background! Shiphrah wasn't feeling particularly photogenic with a purple mustache.
