For Homeschooling Moms

I just ordered my Veritas Press Scholar's Program. For those of you who don't know what that is, it is a CD of lesson plans tailored to fit your family's needs. Having only one kindergartner (I had to look up that spelling--looks funny, doesn't it?!) the program is quite easy. I want to test it out, though, because it promises to be a great help in the future.

For instance, when Samuel is in 5th grade, Shiphrah in 4th, and Solomon in 2nd, they will tailor plans focusing on the same time period in history with activities to match each grade level. With Literature and Bible co-inciding with history, I imagine those activities and books will be selected for their grade levels as well. That way, much of our studies can be done together, making my schooling time with them more efficient and making for better discussions around the dinner table.

So this time next year, I'll have to let y'all know how we liked the first installment of the Scholar's Program and if we intend to continue with it.

In other news, David fixed a gate for me yesterday, so my barn is done!!! We still have to put in the fence between the girls' & boys' pens. I'm tossing around the idea of building a chicken coop on skids that can be moved to fresh forage regularly. It would be far cleaner than having a coop that stays in one place, and the chickens can fertilize and clean the ground under it. I would use the camper shell as a roof, with the nifty door at the back for retreiving eggs. My other option is to just put roosts and nest boxes in our regular barn. Can't decide...
