Summer Colds and Daring Deer!

Sunday we all woke up later than normal, and half the household (David, Samuel, and Shiphrah, to be precise) had sore throats and post-nasal drip. No fun. We decided that with all the babies in the congregation and as late as we awoke, it would be best to spend our day of rest at home. Summer colds aren't as bad as winter colds, though, and we're grateful. We got some time outside in the fresh (albeit muggy) air and sunshine. That's always good medicine, I think.
Going for a walk with the goats...
...and dogs. They enjoy our romps outside the pen.
While I was by the woods with the four-legged kids (two-legged ones in house), we had a very strange experience. The dogs "Woof"ed and ran. The goats "Maaaa"d and ran. The trees said, "Woosh!" All of a sudden, a very large doe--of the deer variety--came jumping out of the woods. Had I not jumped back, I'm certain she would have put me on my rump--she was really that close! She was just as frightened as I was, I could tell, when she looked me in the eye. She ran down the hill and after about 200 feet, she felt safe enough to stop and look back at me before running further away. I looked back toward the barn, and there were all my girls, both canine and caprine, standing in the doorway looking at me! They needed more comforting than I did!
After putting my girls up for the night, I spotted a frog in the lawn. Samuel played with him for a while and wanted a picture before releasing him. He thinks Mr. Froggy is adorable. I think Samuel's adorable. :)

Today we just cleaned, did laundry... Ink makes me laugh. Well, what actually makes me laugh is that because of ink, I have hairspray. I don't like it much on my hair, but it sure does wonders in removing the kids' artwork from my couch cushion covers! Oh! I learned how to make freezer jam--made 5 jars of peach freezer jam, and it was really easy! I can't wait to eat it on fresh baked bread!
