A project for our house...

With the barn renovations, the purchase of the neighbor farm that needed fixing up in order to rent out, and little projects for friends, we've neglected some of the things inside our home that need to be finished up.  We ordered this door when my mom, the kids, and I returned from visiting with my family in Michigan just prior to Thanksgiving last year.  David had redone our bedroom floor as a surprise for me, and in the process he also took out all the doors (bedroom, closet, bathroom) and wanted my input on what door to get.  Funny thing, I had just been photographing my grandma's doors and door knobs because I love them so much!  We picked out a door that looked as close to Gram's as I could find.  The door was to arrive in time for us to install it over Christmas, but the wrong door came.  And then we got busy packing up for our in-laws as they moved out, renovating our barn, buying property and fixing it up...  This door is for the bedroom.  It was over $300, which means we'll be waiting to do the closet and bathroom doors for now...  Tension rods with room darkening curtains have been our make-shift doors, and while I feel like an Indian princess walking through curtained passageways, I will be glad to have a bedroom door.  That locks.  :)

With the start of a new school year just around the corner, I really want to finish up the stuff indoors here so that our house can finally be put back in order!  When we had David's brother's family living with us, John and Melonie and their two cats stayed in the girls' room, and Shelby and Jay stayed in the boys' room.  (And our kids slept in our room.)  When they moved out, the girls' room remained storage for them for a month until they got into their apartment.  We moved all our kids into the boys' room during that time.  We decided that the girls' room really needed new floors and intended to do it over the summer, but didn't foresee the purchase of the place next door, and consequently all the time it would take to fix it up!

Anyhow,  Since this room is vacant, it has ample space for finishing up the door project without the door getting knocked over (as it has several times while sitting on its side in our living room!)  I've got it sanded, cleaned, pre-stained, and stained now.  In 8 hours, I can begin polyurethane!  When the door project is done, we'll pull up the carpet, padding, tack strip, and staples in the girls' room, re-paint the walls, and put down hardwood flooring.  We have just enough left over from the house next door to do this room!

And then, hopefully, I will have enough time before the school year starts to clean and organize the school room.
