We are looking forward to a day of rest today! David has been nose-to-the grindstone between the newest class he's taking; interviewing, scheduling students, and getting his building in order at work; events for our kiddos; and getting our property mowed. He's trimmed trees up at my mom's house and she couldn't be more pleased with the way it looks. She told me the other day that she didn't know it could look so nice there!
Yesterday Shiphrah and Solomon had their last swim lesson of the summer. Solomon is quite pleased to be done! I think Shiphrah would like to continue! She changes her mind so much, and the Summer II session classes are full by this point. Maybe in the fall...? Samuel will continue, starting on Monday nights now. He's very enthused now that he can swim a bit! This means that the kiddos won't go to group violin or piano lessons again until the middle of August (Monday nights), but they still take their private lessons. I continue to be pleased and amazed at their progress!
Speaking of music lessons, this past Wednesday, we finished Shiphrah's lesson a little early. Mr. Cline brought out his cello for the kids to see and hear. (We plan to start Solomon on cello in a year or two.) Samuel was enthralled! The rule is, he has to finish book one of violin before he can add a second instrument! At some point, I'll probably have to stop renting my violin to keep our instrument rental fees at a reasonable level!
On the way home from the doctor's office Friday, I acquired a few neat things. While at Lowe's to get hinges and materials for making mineral feeders, I noticed that they had a nearly empty electrical wire spool. I got it for a dollar! It is the kind with bolts in it that could cut a goat's hooves, so I'll wait until I can get a second one like it, turn them on their sides, and attach boards across the top--it will look like a little car--for the girls to play on. I also saw a cute diaper changing table at a garage sale on my way home, too. It is exactly what I was looking for when I was pregnant with Samuel! I probably have a year left of diapers with Solomon, and it will make a cute dresser when we're done with diapers, but should another baby come along, it will be very handy! At the same garage sale, I found a cute little step stool for the kiddos to use in the bathroom so they can reach to wash hands. Unfortunately, it also works in the kitchen for reaching (and stealing!) my kitchen utensils. Don't be surprised if measuring spoons make it on my Christmas wish list again this year! :)
The kids continue to enjoy the newest, albeit temporary, little inhabitant of our home, Jack the dog. Samuel walks him con...stant....ly! They are so good about playing with him and taking care of him! They think he's hilarious when he plays with his stuffed animal. They don't know what he's doing. Those of us who do just avert our eyes... Yesterday, Jack got loose. He ran up the hill to my mom's and chased a hen into the woods. I knew nothing about it (busy cooking) until Samuel came in the house all red, sweaty, panting, and BAREFOOT to tell me the tale of how he chased Jack all the way up the hill and finally caught him in the woods and carried him back down. My first reaction upon seeing him was to get him a tall glass of lemonade and sit to hear the tale. After telling it, Samuel said, "Momma, wasn't that just a terrimony?!" Indeed. :)
A kitty cat that we brought home last year (was a drop-off at David's school) and that was run off by Pluto (our very territorial feline) must be living close by. I think the neighbors who live across the street (and have unloaded many a puppy on us!--how ironic!) have been adopted by this cat. Anyhow, the cat comes to visit my mom when she's working in the garden. Samuel made a visit to the garden and brought this cat up to our home yesterday as well. He was most upset when Jack chased the cat off, but is content to know that since he fed said cat, she'll probably come back for a visit. I wonder how many animals will be living here by the time Samuel goes off to college?!
Speaking of animals, I better go tend to our herd before it's time to get my family up and ready for church. Have a Happy Lord's Day!

Sure sounds like another blessing must be on the way soon. I bet David was pretty excited to see you bring a new changing table home! Good for y'all!
Well, now, that's cryptic! Hmmm... who is this old friend? Old as in from a long time ago, or old as in your age? ;)
I don't have another little blessing growing inside me yet, but if it happens, we'll happily welcome him/her!
Probably just old. As if that isn't cryptic enough
Oh, gee. I can't win here, can I? If I figure you out now, it would be an insult! And either way, it looks like you're saying I've not been a good friend of late--which is probably true as busy as I've been. That is, if Anonymous and Old Friend are one and the same. But maybe it's just David messing with me. Or not. Either way, I'm feeling messed with! Why did I allow anonymous comments again?
So what will his/her name be?
How about a name that baby contest. We like Sage! It does start with S and it fits the new farm theme.
Good, except there is a little boy at church who is 2 weeks younger than Solomon named Sage. And we really like Bible names. (Pardon my ignorance, if there's someone named Sage in the Bible!) So, for a boy, maybe Stephen. Or Simeon. Or even Simon. But not Samson. That's a dog's name. For a girl, probably Shiloh. Though now that Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie have taken that name, we may look for another. Any good girl S Bible names? Or derivations of them? Of course, there's Sara... I like the idea of a name that baby contest. But we can't guarantee that there will be a winner. Or a baby, for that matter!
How about Shazam? I always liked that TV show.
I had to do a little research on the Shazam stuff.
(From Wikipedia:) Shazam! was a half-hour live-action television program produced by Filmation (the animation studio's first such program), based upon DC Comics' superhero Captain Marvel. The show ran from 1974 to 1977 on CBS...
No wonder I had to look it up. I was born in '76. Name a kid after a character based on Captain Marvel?!?! What kind of a looney tune are you?! ;)
David said today, "How about Shadrack?" (as in Mishak and Abednego, who found favor in God's sight.) But I think there was a gay man on the homecomming court when I was at NC School of the Arts named Shadrack. I couldn't do that. That's worse than naming a daughter Puah.
