Substitute Goatherdess

I am helping to take care of a particular herd of goats that doesn't belong to me. Today was the first full day on the job and I'm exhausted! Not that it's all that difficult, but one of the does just had triplets and animals don't always take to nursing as naturally and easily as one might think! Really, she has had a pretty easy go of it, but given my past nursing experiences, it's no wonder that I spent much of the night awake and in prayer!

Tomorrow promises to be easier. I also have plans to learn how to "process" a chicken in the morning! (That's a nice word for "butcher.") I've been told to wear clothes that I don't ever care to see again. Hmmm... sounds exciting! Then in the evening, we'll have help picking up large items from Tractor Supply--gates and goat panels.

David has completed the purlins on another third of the barn! By the weekend, we'll be seeing metal! It's coming together, which is a good thing. One week from today, our goats and dogs are to come home! I really need to get some supplies now!

That's about it here. Busy. Tiring. Good. If things go as planned, it may be a while before I post again. There is much to be done. Hopefully we'll have photos of a completed--and occupied--barn soon!
