I just found out about the Freecycle network, and already LOVE it! We wanted some desks for our school room and had been looking at govdeals.com and e-bay but never found anything close enough. We looked at school supply stores and catalogues, and the prices are dizzying. So I put a post on Freecycle. It's really strange to ask for something for free--I've never done that before! Anyhow, we were blessed with a quick answer that a church had purchased new desks for their facility and had several to get rid of. I was able to go pick up four of the cutest kindergarden sized desks for just the cost of gas! Yes, there are four desks there. No, there isn't another baby on the way. Yet. You have to have four to put them together and make a table for projects, though! They got scrubbed down yesterday and I have visions of painting the metal and making new tops... maybe I'll get time to do that by the time my grandchildren will use them!

Wow! Neat idea. I've never heard of Freesyle? is it? We go on Craislist all the time and they have a free section on there. We've sold a lot through Craigslist too. The internet is awesome. Well, have fun setting up your classroom! Rebekah
Freecycle is a network where you can post items you have to give away, or items you would like to get for free. It's intention is to help folks in your community and to reduce landfill waste. You go to www.freecycle.org and enter your location in the box that says "Find a group near you." Then you choose a group that is local (or where you're willing to drive) and join like any other yahoo group. If you haven't done any yahoo groups, they're worth looking into--scads of information and help on whatever it is you may want to do. There are groups for gardening, raising various breeds or types of animals, sewing, you name it, there's a group. You can get e-mails or not, be vocal, or not. It is a little addictive, though. ;)
