This morning (barely, I slept in!) I went out to do my barn chores. When I got outside, I found all the animals in an uproar! A little chick had got out of the barn, out of the pen, and into the doe pen! It was standing there cheeping its little head off! All the big chickens were in the pen (but one, who was out on the other side) staring at it. The bucks were hollering. The does were hollering. The dogs were wondering when I was coming to the rescue. The other little chicks were chattering among one another as if they had to share the news between them.
So my first task was to get the big chicken back in the pen so I could then turn my attention to the little one. Cinderella helped me corner her so I could grab her and toss her into the pen. Then I asked for her help with the little one. I told her the little one would be faster than me so I needed her to catch it, but not to hurt it; just bring it to me so I could put it where it belongs. (I say "it" because we ordered a few roosters this time for breeding and I don't know which ones they are yet.)
So, Cinderella and I walked into the doe pen and much to the does' chagrin, did not immediately feed them. :) We went around back to where the chick was and I reminded Cinderella of her instructions. Finally I said, "Go get her for me!" and off she went! She chased her around to me and put her in her mouth right at my feet ever so gently. I picked up the fussy chick and took her back to her young flock with Cinderella following triumphantly at my heels.
Cinderella needs an extra special treat, I think! I love that dog!
