Confirmed...

The other day I was thinking that perhaps the Rhode Island Red hens I ordered were not really hens but roosters. Their combs are a bit big, but some breeds of chickens have big combed hens. I thought I heard some premature crowing going on outside, but perhaps one of the Barred Rock roosters wandering about had a touch of a sore throat.

Well, this morning as I went out to feed, my suspicions were confirmed. Those Rhode Island Reds were CROWING at me. Hens don't crow.

I had ordered these hens for someone else, who got her hens from someone else and didn't need the ones I ordered anyway. I was to in turn give them to the someone she got hers from, but since that someone recently ordered over 700 chickens, she wasn't terribly concerned about my 3. (Which are now 2 because one died.)

So... I have 2 more roosters that I don't need. David is going to get processing lessons over Christmas! We're having chicken stew!
