Vet Re-Visit
I think I've spent more at the vet in the past 3 weeks than I've spent at Walmart. That's a lot, in case you're wondering! Fortunately, there is wonderful news to report! I took fecal samples up today (my aunt watched my little darlings!) and we found NO coccidia!!!! I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it! Jarlath has gained 17 pounds and Tripoli has gained 19 or 20 pounds in the last 2 weeks, which is very exciting as well. Jarlath still had a few worm eggs, but I anticipated that. He was the only one who had them before, and the only one who spit half his worming medicine out! Since it is such a small number, my vet said she would ordinarily not do anything except for the fact that they're new here, my ground is new, and if we wipe them out now, I should not ever have problems with them in the future. We're taking a nip-it-in-the-bud approach so I have more medicine for that and will give it another whirl. The vet's office was not busy at all, so she took time to show me how to do the fecal, and we had a nice chat while we waited. We did see a small number of something on the fecal that she has not seen before. Samples are being sent in to the lab for further help in identifying it. It has an operculum on one end and my guess is liver fluke. We'll see what the lab says. Anyhow, I picked up more stuff for the dogs and goats while there, and got a price quote on some supplies to do my own fecal flotations in the future. All in all, a very good visit. Now David has placed a snazzy microscope on his wish list, but I think I could provide great science experiments to the kids at school and eliminate my need for a microscope... Hey, look kids! Free goat berries! ;)
