Ouch!

This nesting bug sure is biting hard! I suppose that's not uncommon. When I was pregnant with Samuel, we paved the driveway, painted the entire house, had a new HVAC and ductwork installed and had an air purification system installed. When I was pregnant with Shiphrah, we had a water filtration system, reverse osmosis, and tankless hot water heater installed. When I was pregnant with Solomon, I bought a couch and 2 chairs at a garage sale and reupholstered them. Perhaps since our library isn't done yet and we've just done bathroom floors and toilets, I'm getting antsy. Maybe when the library is done and back in order (and the rest of our house is put back together as a result), I'll settle down. Until then, however, I'm getting really well organized closets and cabinets!

Maybe I can't really blame nesting on all of it... maybe it's just springtime that causes me to get involved in such projects. Last year, we did build a barn, and fences, and a milkstand, and a chicken coop... but maybe I was nesting for our new animals? The year before we painted kids' bedrooms, and I have no real excuse for that project other than I thought it would be a nice change.

Anyhow, last night's project took care of a set of cabinets so that now I have some canning supplies to store in the barn or shed and I have indoor room for all the egg cartons, milking supplies, and other goat related items that need to be kept indoors. I don't know how I had room for all the stuff I want to put outside!!!

Last night's project also caused me to head up to Grandma's house to get a storage tote and ask about some soon to expire pickling stuff and jelly stuff. While there, I managed to do a bit of cleaning as well (she was napping when I arrived so I thought I'd busy myself.) I discovered that except for maybe a couple of boxes of diapers in sizes 1, 2, and 3, we should be set on diapers for Shiloh for the next year! Probably wipes, too! Mom's a crazy shopper! When she woke up, we chatted a bit and she invited me to come over and clean more often. David said I should sieze the moment! If only I could manage to stay on top of the chores around here (I haven't ironed everything in months and hopefully tonight I can make a dinner that doesn't include leftovers!) I'm sure I'd be all over the invitation to clean my mom's house. She needs the help.

Oh! Yesterday did see another much needed task tended to here as well. The large burn pile and barn remains that were an eyesore on our property across the street began to be dealt with. Ricky Troutt (who has done all our water lines, septic tank and lines, and all the bulldozer & backhoe work that have turned this property from an overgrown wasteland into something that you can actually live on and manage) started dealing with those ugly piles. By the time I got out of bed, he was already clearing the land around the piles. I watched intermittently as he rearranged the piles with his bulldozer and set them on fire. He stayed the entire day managing that fire and while there is more to be done (after it all cools, the remains will get buried) the view is much improved!

So, with all my grand intentions in mind, I will head out to the barn to do my morning chores and hopefully come back with enough energy for a shower before I nap!
