I hate shots!

I've discovered a few things about myself today. I hate giving shots with a passion. Banamine is easy. 1 cc of thin liquid that doesn't hurt... I'm good. Penicillin is NOT easy. 8 cc's of thick liquid that burns... well, I gave up doing IM shots, did SQ tonight because they're at least a little easier, but still had issues. I had to stick 4 times to get all the medicine in, and change the needle half way through b/c it got dull. That was a good time for a cry break, though.

So, anyhow, Jarlath's temperature is now normal, thanks to the banamine, but I don't know how his infection is really doing. I can't believe I will have at least 5 more days of this. I already threw up just a little before doing tonight's shots just because I really really didn't want to do them.

I needed to clean out his wound and get some penicillin in there, but was a failure in that effort. I tried squirting saline on it to clean it out, and it did clean the outside off some, but didn't break through the puss scabs that have formed. So we thought we might just try shooting some pen through the scab. I couldn't even get close. Jarlath's head was in the headgate of the milkstand and David was holding him as still as he could... but Jarlath's head still managed to move around like crazy. He's one strong buck, and is at least feeling well enough to fight! I managed to not stick David, which is a definite positive, but I didn't manage to get any pen in the wound. I think I might be taking Jarlath back to the vet tomorrow for some more help.
