Yesterday we met with a doctor. We're considering the option of going the "hospital route" for birth this time around, given our need of pitocin with Solomon. That, and if I plan to be at a hospital, I can choose one that has lactation consultants! The doctor was a little stand-offish, since he appeared to think I was there seeking a "back-up" physician. I got the impression that he's dealt with less-than-honest midwifery patients before, so can understand his bristliness, but had hoped he wouldn't be so... well, bristly! I heard great things about him (He's a Christian and has 8 kids of his own) and wanted to like him a bit more than I did on this impression.
Even though this is baby #4, this is new territory for me. The idea of having to wait for doctor appointments (rather than walking in on time and getting undivided attention for up to an hour), going through some hospital type classes, and taking some tests I've never had before (primarily more ultrasounds and a glucose tolerance test) are all a bit foreign to me and may take some getting-used-to.
At the same time, I was able to discuss some of my concerns with the doctor, and things that I thought could be issues don't sound as if they'd be issues at all. I am hopeful, probably decided, but still a bit nervous about it all. If you think of it, prayers over this would be appreciated. :)

Hey, I just wanted to say congrats! I just found out you are expecting. I had a midwife with Luke, who was great, but we did everything at the hospital, so I guess it was a mix. The only problem, she was on vacation when I delivered and I had to have an emergency C-section anyway. I had no drugs, so they had to put me under. I was sad that I didn't get to experience his birth, but after holding him for the first time, it didn't matter, as long as he was healthy! Did you have some complications with Soloman's birth? Is this why you are going the hospital route?
Thanks, Rebekah!
I had a failure to progress. It wound up being a 48 hour labor, with transport to the hospital after the first 40 hours. Given that my labors are on the long side, and recovering from a labor that long is hellacious, I'm not thinking I'm the best homebirth candidate.
