Today has been a day of preparations, since tomorrow we will be heading to the hospital bright and early. We took our little goat to the vet because he's had a swollen and hurt knee since Friday. We didn't really get any answers, which was frustrating. Our regular vet was on vacation, and so we didn't see a goat specialist. She did all the things I have done here at home and it was not fun to pay for that. She did give us some pain medicine for him, but I hesitate to give that, since I don't want him feeling too good and further injuring his knee. I wish I knew for sure that it was an injury rather than a virus or a parasite...
We also had to take Cinderella for her rabies shot and a heart worm test. She does not have heartworm, but came back positive for Lyme's disease and Erlichiosis. What a bummer! So, we have her on antibiotics for the next month, and then after that we'll have to do a urine test on her kidney function. I feel so bad! I know that with a dog like her, it's next to impossible to prevent Lyme's disease... She is so furry that you could never inspect her thoroughly for ticks each day, and Frontline doesn't necessarily take care of them completely. She goes out in the woods and beyond the areas where the chickens (tick eaters) go. The vet did say that recognizing the symptoms in dogs like her is difficult, too, since they tend to sleep during the day, eat predators, and joint issues often go hand in hand with large breed dogs. After I'm home, I hope to be able to shave her...
We did our grocery shopping, some laundry, some cleaning up outdoors, and I have yet to pack a bag for the kiddos tomorrow and get some ironing done. I did, however, take a great nap! David is about to head to the school and get some things done so we will all be ready in the morning.
Signing off for now and I'll update when I'm back home!
