Home Again

How nice it is to be home! Well, to update...

Wednesday morning, we took the kiddos to the Thacker's for who-knows-how-long-it-would-be before heading to the hospital. We arrived at the hospital at 7, did a little paperwork and got settled in our room and introduced to our nurses. At 8 o'clock, we got down to business.

First the doctor broke my water and started me on a pitocin drip. He said I could have an epidural whenever I wanted. After about an hour, my labor kicked into gear and within another hour or so, I was moving along at a good clip. At that point, I started to think about when I'd reach transition at that pace, and didn't want to get there without an epidural and decided to go ahead and ask for it, even if it could wait a little. Eventually I'd want it anyway, and wanted to make sure I didn't miss my window.

That slowed things down a little, but Dr. Trabue had a plan to "actively manage" my labor and not let me fall behind the curve. My pitocin had to be increased a few times, and I had to have another dose of medicine in my epidural, and do a few position changes, but by 4 o'clock, I was ready to push. Shiloh arrived after just 2 pushy contractions at 4:07 pm. I am so thankful that even though I tend to have difficulty laboring that pushing is not tough for me. I'm also thankful that through the use of "active management of labor" I was able to have the shortest labor to date--half the length of my previous shortest labor. That "taking dominion" and "reversing the curse" stuff is good--really good! :)

Shiloh was 8 pounds, 2 oz. My second largest baby! She was 19.5 inches long. We had a great start to nursing in the delivery room, but that has gone downhill since. It is disappointing, but I am reminded that there are so many more important things than the type of milk she drinks.

I think that the nursing care (and the food!) at Sumner Regional were better than at Centennial, but my doctor was wonderful! I am glad to be home. We are all a bit lazy around here now, but that's not such a bad thing. :)

Speaking of lazy... I think it's time for a nap!
