Like most folks, summer is the time when we get to work on house projects. It has been a very busy summer thus far, and we are finally able to tackle more of our to-do list. Today, David put the auger on the tractor (and as heavy as that thing is, that is a project in and of itself!) and then dug 4 holes for posts for our new chicken coop. There are two more to dig, but that will require opening up the buck pen for a while, so we are going to get as much done before hand so they aren't wandering free for long.
I've been working on our bathroom, which is a project that began about the time I started this blog! It started with me ripping out wall around the shower head to repair a leaky water line and I promised photos of it when it was all fixed and pretty. I am slightly closer! David and I decided to build a linen cabinet in that bathroom, and I agreed I would do the drywall mudding and taping when the time came. David finished constructing the closet and hanging the drywall about 6 days prior to Shiloh's birth. I didn't get to any of the mudding or taping in a timely fashion at all, considering the circumstances! David has done some here and there, but I was going to be held to my end of the agreement. :) I absolutely detest this job, but I probably played with a little more play-doh as a child, so I tend to get it smoother pre-sanding, soooo.... the job is mine. Putting up joint tape causes me to think thoughts that no good Christian ought to think, particularly when PMSing, but anyhow.... David stumbled across some really cool self adhesive joint tape the other day, and I got inspired! I can put it up and THEN mud? It doesn't have to be done all in one messy, fumbling, clumsy, calamatous, and maddening step? I won't look like a mummy in any step of the process unless I really want to? The inventors of this lovely product have no idea what a help it is to my sanctification and my sanity, I am sure, but I thank them deeply. My bathroom would still be years from completion because the thought of paper tape and mud and corners (inside corners, no less, FIVE of them!) made me want to cry, scream, throw things... you get the idea. But now, I'm impatiently waiting on corners to dry so I can get to the other side of them, dreaming of paint colors (I think I have found decorating inspiration in a painting I was given for my 9th birthday) and all the other planning that that entails. Yay!
We have decided to get a bit of help with all of the projects we planned for the year, because there just isn't time to get to them all. Tomorrow, our other exterior doors will be installed! So very excited about that, and of course, I'm planning on painting the front door, restoring the shutters to their original color, and getting my bedroom (where the doors are currently being stored) back in order! David has been working on the repairs around the sliding glass door which he installed, and it looks as if much of our living, dining, and hallway are going to get a much needed fresh coat of paint. Yay! No more crayon on the wall! (for a few days, anyway!)
The next major project on the horizon is our bridge repair, and it looks like we will be able to hire the man to do that in the very near future. I am so thrilled! When that is done, we can finally stock our barn with hay for the year and maybe even bring fines in to raise up the barn floor and provide for better drainage. So very exciting! (well, to me it is!) One day soon, I will get to start planning flower beds and gardens, but I will be patient. One project (or ten) at a time!
