Chickies!

Because we had a surplus of eggs about 3 weeks ago, we incubated some eggs. They are hatching now! And now, we are running short on eggs, and these chicks can't grow up fast enough! Anyhow, we have 12 chicks hatched so far, and one more is currently pecking away at its shell. We could have hatchlings for the next 3 or 4 days.
We also got 15 Rhode Island Red pullets from the Farmer's Co-Op yesterday. Next week, they are supposed to have some Welsummers in, and we hope to get some of those, too. Welsummers lay those chocolate colored eggs that I've been coveting!
Our kids really enjoy the chicks and watching them hatch. Solomon got a little carried away with one yesterday--he pretended it was Superman. That was fine, until he sent it flying through the air. FYI: day old chicks don't fly. May SuperChickie rest in peace. Samuel and Shiphrah had to camp out next to their babies last night:
