It has been somewhat of an eventful day today. My mom left for Michigan yesterday so today I began taking on her animal chores. After my morning milking, feeding, etc. I went up to feed and water her chickens and ducks. I've decided to surprise mom, so please keep the secret until she returns. If you know anything about Mom's housekeeping, you know that organization is not her strong suit. I am going to attempt to organize her food storage and her dishes. This is no small task! I got started today, but there is much to be done. I also want to clean up around her house. Hopefully I get done before she returns, because I have a feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better!
After that, I loaded up my girls and went for my 6 week post-partum visit with the doctor. Shiphrah fed Shiloh to keep her content when I was unavailable. Such a big help! :) My visit was uneventful. I need to continue to take it easy (HA!) until my connective tissues stop feeling so loose.
While I was away, David worked in the bathroom. Do you remember the ugly showerhead and bathroom vent/fan photos I shared in the early days of my blog? Well, he cut away more wall, framed up the inside, braced plumbing, and hung more sheetrock! He has also been building a linen closet in that bathroom in an empty corner and finished hanging that sheetrock today, too! So next will be the task of mudding and taping, and that one unfortunately falls to me. Goodbye, fingernails. I look forward to the next part: priming and painting. If only I could decide on a color...
I got a nap today for the first time in 3 or 4 days. It was much needed. I woke up to the sound of a delivery truck coming up the driveway and Cinderella barking. My milk machine arrived! I put it together and now need to add oil for the pump motor, clean the belly pails and inflations, and read the owner's manual! I can't wait to use it!
After that, the heating and air repairman arrived. It seems part of our HVAC will need to be replaced, and the freon will have to be removed to replace it. It is to be a pricey ordeal. In addition to that, our oven is no longer working. So, all cooking will be done on the grill, stove, or crock pot. When it rains it pours, huh? At least I won't be heating the house with the oven, and it's summer so grilling out is fun!
Many of our egg customers are on vacation, but our chickens are not. We have scads of extra eggs. If any of you want any, please let me know! We made 2 dozen eggs for dinner tonight... eggs, toast, and goatmilk milkshakes. YUM!
David is currently returning from Lowe's with that drywall mud and a few other odds and ends. When he arrives, I have some chicken living quarters to rearrange and dishes to wash. 5 am milking is going to arrive awfully soon...
