Preparing for Christmas

Yesterday being the first day of Advent, it was only fitting that we fancied up the house in celebration of the Christmas season.
I recently strung a poinsettia garland around this candle holder and am very pleased with the result. :) The kiddos are very pleased with lit candles--something I don't do often.
We stored our Christmas tree in the hay loft last year, and found this year that it had been inhabited by mice. Ew. Yuk. So, this is our new tree. The kiddos enjoyed helping me decorate it last night. Excuse the blur.
Our Advent Wreath. The prophets candle and some of the poinsettia leaves have been the victims of three small children.
In an effort to flee from my Christmas roots, where it was all about Santa Claus and the presents, I refused to do stockings for several years. I'm finally at a place where Christmas is appropriately concentrated on Christ, and am able to enjoy stockings again. I believe St. Nicholas day is December 6th... or is that St. Boniface day? Anyhow, we'll look it up, study that bit of our church history, and enjoy this stocking tradition in honor of a saint in God's kingdom.
The nativity we have is a Little People nativity, so it has been claimed by the children and Baby Jesus is probably sitting in a stroller that belongs to the baby from the Little People play house. One of these days, I'll get a grown up one. :) I also want to make an Advent Calendar. I say that every year. I recently saw one at the home of Mark & Jamie Hays and it was beautiful! Maybe I can gather materials and make one with the kiddos this year, and even if we don't get to use it yet, we will have it for next year.
